Mary Shomon Thyroid Expert

Mary Shomon is an advertising executive-turned-thyroid expert who has been writing on thyroid treatment for over ten years.  In 1995 she was diagnosed with an auto-immune thyroid disorder, which gave her the incentive to learn all she could about the disease including those developed by practitioners of alternative medicine.  She has written several books on thyroid conditions, weight loss, auto-immune diseases and other medical topics, including a best seller published in 2004 entitled The Thyroid Diet: Manage Your Metabolism for Lasting Weight Loss.

She is the resident authority on thyroid conditions for About.com as well as an operator of other health and thyroid related websites of her own.  She is a strong advocate of natural thyroid supplements and often takes exception to standard thyroid treatment modalities, including some of the medications currently prescribed by endocrinologists.

Other topics on which she has written include chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, a general state of pain in the body joints and tendons which has been linked to fatigue, depression, and an assortment of other chronic ailments.  She has expanded her medical knowledge and published works into a number of areas, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, where there are few established treatment standards.  Her work often consists of interjections regarding traditional treatments that suggest faulty treatment and suggest alternatives.

Her contributions in the field of weight loss diet plans for victims of hypothyroidism have had a major impact.  She is thoroughly knowledgeable about the physiological details of thyroid afflictions and other diseases, so the advice she provides comes from a position of expertise rather than an alternative method of defining physical ailments and devising treatments.

Nor is she shy about tackling complex issues.  One of her thyroid support-oriented works is Thyroid Guide to Fertility, Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Success, a fifty page pamphlet that has since been incorporated into The Thyroid Hormone Breakthrough, published as a book in 2006.  She is a highly visible and highly knowledgeable, dedicated patient advocate for people suffering from thyroid conditions, despite her lack of a medical degree.
