The goji berry, also known as the wolfberry, is a bright orange-red berry harvested in China and Tibet for nutritional and some medicinal uses. Goji berries are also exported to western countries where there is a substantial market for goji products as health foods and for various alternative medicine purposes.
China grows substantial quantities of this fruit on plantations, both for domestic and export purposes. The goji berry is an excellent source of potassium, iron, zinc, riboflavin (vitamin B2), calcium and vitamin C. They also contain polysaccharides, zeaxanthin and beta carotene, which is converted to vitamin A by the body.
